Mahindra & Mahindra Q2 net dips 5% at Rs 373 cr

Mahindra & Mahindra said on Wednesday its consolidated profit declined 4.92 per cent to Rs 373.30 crore for the second quarter ended September 30 on the back of increasing material cost and global economic crisis. The firm had a net profit of Rs 392.60 crore in the September quarter of last fiscal, M&M said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. The company said increase in material cost and the economic downturn, which resulted in appreciation of the Indian cu rrency and rising interest rates, have exerted pressure on the operating margins and profits. The revenues and other income rose 19 per cent to Rs 7,741.40 crore for the quarter under review, from Rs 6,502.6 crore in the year-ago period. For the six months ended September 30, M&M reported a consolidated PAT of Rs 782.9 crore, a 13 per cent growt h over the year-ago period. M&M: Muted profits despite strong sales

Mahindra and Mahindra’s net profits (standalone basis) for the quarter ended March 2008, dipped by 3 per cent excluding extraordinary items. On a sequential basis, the fall was more pronounced, at 11.25 per cent. No fall in demand? The fall in profits cannot be attributed to a demand slowdown as net sales grew by 14.5 per cent year-on-year and about 7 per cent quarter-on-quarter. The company, being a leading player in the utility vehicles segment, was relatively better off as it was the two-wheeler and medium and heavy vehicles segment that bore the brunt of the auto slowdown. Though farm equipment sales for M&M did decline, a growth in utility vehicles backed by the re-launched Bolero and a new Scorpio variant helped the company close with reasonable sales growth. Growth in the company’s engines business also helped, making up for the decline. At the end of the year, the company’s market share in the domestic utility vehicles segment stood at more than 50 per cent. Sales of utilit...

One-time gain of Rs 157 cr boosts Mahindra net 67% (The Hindu Business Line 31th Jan 2008)A one-time gain of Rs 157 crore has enabled Mahindra and Mahindra to report a 67 per cent increase in the third quarter net profit at Rs 405 crore against Rs 242 crore in the year-ago period. Excluding this exceptional income — arising out of the merger of subsidiaries — the profit increased only three per cent to Rs 249.5 crore. Total income rose 14 per cent to Rs 2,980 crore from Rs 2,617 crore. Despite higher sales, profit was lower mainly on account of higher expenses. Mr Uday Phadke, President Finance, Mahindra and Mahindra, said the company’s margins were under pressure on account of higher finance cost due to the recent large acquisitions, increased R&D expenses and a rise in staff cost.
