One Equity Partners, a private equity firm, is the other bidder. However, it is not known whether One Equity will also follow suit. According to sources close to the developments, the two Indian companies may revise their bids to $2.2 billion in the higher end of the band. An analyst from Merrill Lynch had valued the two companies at $1.5 billion.

It is yet another marriage of frugal engineering with high technology. The joint venture announced on Monday between Swedish multinational, Volvo A.B., and Eicher Motors follows the same pattern as three other partnerships that were forged in the recent past — Ashok Leyland-Nissan Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra- ITEC, and Force Motors-MAN A.G.
The mantra behind these joint ventures was efficient, low-cost manufacturing using high-end global technology and the Volvo-Eicher tie-up is no different. For Volvo, Eicher was the best and possibly, only effective pick available in the high potential commercial vehicles market, already the fourth largest in the world.
Jyoti Structures on Tuesday said it has bagged two orders worth Rs 253 crore from Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd and Eskom Enterprises (Pty) Ltd for construction of transmission lines. The company has bagged Rs 160-crore order from Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd for construction of transmission lines and sub-stations. Besides, the company's joint venture company Jyoti Structures Africa (Pty) Ltd has bagged a contract for Eskom Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, the electricity utility of South Africa for construction of transmission line. The scope of the order from Uganda Electricity Transmission Company includes supply and erection of Bujagali Interconnection Project, the manufacturer of transmission line towers informed the Bombay Stock Exchange. The contract valued at around $39.64 million (Rs 160 crore) is to be executed in 24 months, the company said, adding the company would construct 220 kV and 132 kV transmission lines and substations.
