Ashok Leyland Q4 net at Rs 180 cr, declares 150% dividend

Hinduja group flagship company Ashok Leyland on Thursday announced a net profit of Rs 180.57 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 a 5.28 per cent growth over the corresponding period a year ago. The company had a net profit of Rs 171.52 cro re in the fourth quarter of the financial year ended March 31, 2007.
The total income rose to Rs 2,573.61 crore for the latest quarter, from Rs 2,307.9 crore in the year-ago period.
The board of directors has declared a dividend of 150 per cent at the rate of Rs 1.50, on every share of face value of Re 1 held, for the year ended 2007-08.
For the year-ended March 31, 2008, the company announced a net profit of Rs 469.31 crore, a 6.35 per cent growth over the year-ago period. The company had a net profit of Rs 441.29 crore in the financial year ended March 31, 2007. The total income rose t o Rs 7,803.12 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007 from Rs 7,238.98 crore last year.
The board has approved the appointment of Vinod K Dasari as an Additional Director on the company's board. Further, Mr R Seshasayee would be re-appointed as Managing Director for three years, effective April 1, 2008, the filing said. Shares of Ashok Ley land were trading at Rs 40.25, down 3.71 per cent in the afternoon trade on the BSE.

Inflation hits 42-week high of 7.57%

Inflation rose to a 42-week high of 7.57 per cent in the 12 months to April 19, higher than the previous week’s annual rise of 7.33 per cent, largely on account of an increase in food, metal products and industrial fuel prices, official data showed. Analysts said that the inflation of 7.57 per cent was “slightly higher” than their expectations and this could be due to price increase in tea and certain items in the steel group. India’s wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation now stood highest since November 13, 2004, when it was 7.68 per cent. Economists expressed confidence that the recent fiscal and monetary measures would yield results in the coming weeks. They, however, noted that inflation was unlikely to return to the comfort zone of the Reserve Bank of India any time this fiscal. “There could be some easing of food inflation given the good wheat production and likelihood of good monsoon.
