US Fed cuts interest rate by 50 bps (Business Standard 31th June 2008)The US Federal Reserve has cut its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points to 3% to prevent the US economy from sinking into a recession."Today's policy action, combined with those taken earlier, should help to promote moderate growth over time and to mitigate the risks to economic activity,'' the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) said in a statement after meeting on Wednesday in Washington.
